Colorado Ballot Initiatives

Session Encourages Action on Key Ballot Measures

The Political Involvement Committee of the V7 session would like the Village Seven congregation to be aware of three critically important ballot initiatives that are to be placed on the November 2026 Colorado Ballot; we encourage you to pray about these initiatives and take action on it through voting as you are led by the Holy Spirit.

These are the three ballots measures:

BALLOT INITIATIVE 1: Protecting children from transgender procedures.
This is significantly tied to biblical truth. This measure prohibits transgender surgeries on minors. It doesn’t address the use of hormones, which are even more prevalent. This will likely be addressed at a later date in a following ballot initiative.

BALLOT INITIATIVE 2: Girls Sports: Preventing biological males from participating in girls’ sports.
This initiative is a pretty straightforward measure. It is seeking to keep men’s and women’s sports separate and not allow biological males to participate in girls/women’s sports. This is a pretty significant flashpoint in the battles over transgenderism.

Biblical References: Relating to these first two measures, the Bible clearly states that God created male and female (Gen. 1:27; Mark 10:6). God also gave parents the right and responsibility to raise up their children “in the discipline and instruction of the Lord” (Eph. 6:4; Prov. 22:6). In addition, allowing children to be encouraged toward a “transgender” lifestyle or identity is not biblically supported (Deut. 22:5). Those struggling with gender confusion need compassion, but also the truth.

BALLOT INITIVE 3: Cracking down on child sex trafficking.
This is focused on toughening the laws against child sex trafficking. This measure would require the penalty on all child sex trafficking to be life in prison without parole or early release.

Biblical References: God designed government “to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good” (1 Pet. 2:14). This bill would focus on punishing those who do evil.

Potential Ballot Initiative Concerns

Each of these initiatives has some potential concerns.

BALLOT INITIATIVE 1: Protecting children from transgender procedures.
This initiative addresses the transgender surgical procedures but does not cover the use of hormones on minors. The hormone therapies can have just as detrimental health effects as surgical procedures. However, that will likely be addressed in a subsequent ballot measure.

BALLOT INITIATIVE 2: Girls Sports: Preventing biological males from participating in girls’ sports.
The text for this ballot measure is written in a way that could make it vulnerable to potential court challenges.

BALLOT INITIVE 3: Cracking down on child sex trafficking.
This ballot initiative provides for life in prison without the potential for parole or early release. While life in prison may seem appropriate for the typical sexual predators committing this type of crime, there are some other equally wrong behaviors but possibly without the harmful intent present in the previous example. There could potentially be a potential overreach that could result. This is because the bill defines child sex trafficking to include any person who has sex with a minor. As previously mentioned, toughening the laws on child sex trafficking is appropriate and needed. However, the mandatory penalty of life in prison without parole or release, could potentially creating potential problems in some instances.

As an example, a male professional athlete who goes to a night club and meets a 17- year-old girl who had obtained entry with a false ID. After a sexual interaction, the male finds himself in major legal trouble, which would be appropriate. Under this new proposed ballot measure, his mandatory sentence would likely be life in prison without parole or release. Although this does not negate the seriousness of the wrong action to the minor, the wording difficulty of the ballot initiative, could potentially cause voters to question supporting the initiative. This could also result in possible future court challenges.
