Mark Bates

Senior Pastor

Mark Bates was born in Birmingham, Alabama, but spent most of his childhood in the suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia. He and his wife, Tricia, have three daughters--Allison, Ashley, and Anna Katherine. Mark is a graduate of Bryan College (B.A. in Greek) and has his Master's Degree from Reformed Theological Seminary. He was the Youth and Singles Pastor at Orangewood Presbyterian Church in Maitland, Florida. In 1991, Mark and Tricia left Orangewood to start University Presbyterian Church in Orlando and grew the church to over 700. In July of 2007, Mark accepted the call to Village Seven. As Senior Pastor, Mark's primary responsibilities are leadership and preaching.

Kevin Allen

Pastor of Outreach

Kevin was born in Detroit, Michigan and finished high school in Southern California. He met his wife, Beth, at the University of Oregon (Go Ducks!) where he received his B.S. in History in 1991. Kevin and Beth then spent six years on staff with Campus Crusade for Christ at Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA and at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. Kevin first came to Village Seven in 1997. He completed his Master of Divinity degree in 2000 and was ordained at V7 and served in several other roles. In 2009 he took on a fresh role of Pastor of Outreach. He also serves as Stated Clerk of Rocky Mountain Presbytery. He enjoys cardiovascular workouts and reading (especially history). Kevin and Beth have two children, Bradley and Emily.

Abby Blouin

Director of Children’s Ministries

Abby grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education in 1998 from the University of Minnesota, Morris.  After graduation, she spent four years teaching in Garden Grove, California. She married George in 2001, and then it was time to move to Colorado Springs for a teaching job in Falcon. George and Abby have two children.
    It was first through the outreach ministry of MOPS that Abby learned of Village Seven. In 2013, Abby was called into this role. She directs an incredible team of women who serve the children of Village Seven and our community. Outside of work, Abby likes to photograph and scrap book her family’s everyday adventures. 

Bryan Counts

Pastor of Adult Ministries

Bryan graduated from Covenant College in 1998, and then taught Bible to middle and high school students for three years at Shannon Forest Christian School in Greenville, SC. Bryan and his wife Erika then moved St. Louis, where Bryan attended Covenant Seminary. Bryan interned here at V7 in 2003, and upon graduation in 2004 he and Erika returned to V7. Bryan oversees our adult ministries. His hope is that God would continue to mature the people of V7 as they see how God wants to change them by his grace in every part of their life. He listens to too much old country music, will cry like a baby when his South Carolina Gamecocks finally win their championship, and dreams of breaking free from the peloton in a daring solo attack up the 21 hairpin turns of l’Alpe d’Huez to take the yellow jersey.

Melinda Hegeman

Girl’s Discipleship Coordinator

Melinda was born on an island in the Caribbean, the Dominican Republic, where her parents were missionaries. After a time in Canada, they moved to  Miami where Melinda finished middle school and high school. She attended Trinity Christian College in Chicago, where she played college volleyball, and earned a degree in graphic design.  Melinda spent the past year in the Dominican Republic learning Spanish, and helping teach at an orphanage. She was able to see God’s hand working in the little things like helping the kids learn to draw, to the crazy adventurous things like jumping down twenty-seven waterfalls in one day.  She enjoys art and sports.  She likes everything from time consuming oil paintings to making Pinterest crafts. She also loves all things outdoors: kayaking, biking, surfing, horseback riding, hiking, even segways, you name it!  But her all time favorite pastime is sand volleyball.

Richard Hunt

Director of Worship, Music and the Arts

Richard longs to help people meet God in authentic, life-changing worship. He was born in Waco, Texas, and grew up as a child of missionaries in the Philippines. He is a graduate of Wayland Baptist University, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and the Robert E. Webber Institute for Worship Studies.
    Before coming to Village Seven in 2004, Richard served churches in Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. He and his wife, Margaret, have three grown children, one in heaven. When it's time to relax, Richard loves to head to the mountains on his motorcycle.

Drew Lints

Pastor to Students

Drew was born and raised in Lancaster, PA where he earned his undergraduate degree in Philosophy at Penn State University. After completing an internship at Westminster PCA in his hometown, Drew moved on to attend Covenant Seminary in St. Louis. While in seminary, he married his wife Jennifer. Drew was then called as pastor to students at Old Cutler PCA in Miami, FL where he enjoyed six years of fruitful ministry and warm sunny days. In 2010, Drew accepted a call to join our family in ministering to our students. He is currently completing his Doctor of Ministry at Covenant Seminary. Drew's passion is the covenant family and helping the church fulfill her role in serving younger generations. He and Jen have a boy, Logan, and a girl, Olive, who have become mascots for our youth ministry. Drew enjoys tinkering on his Jeep, driving up in the mountains, and rock climbing!

Carl Nelson

Director of Pastoral Care

Carl was born in Los Angeles and grew up in Manitou Springs. He attended the University of Denver and received his B.S. in Business Administration in 1973. He then attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary receiving his Master of Divinity in 1978. Carl began pastoring churches in Colorado in 1979 and came to Village Seven in December of 2007. He has served as a volunteer chaplain with the Colorado Springs Police Depatment since 1983. He and Marti have four children and three grandchildren.

Evan Nelson

Guys Discipleship Coordinator

Evan is a born-and-raised Colorado Springs native. Having volunteered in youth ministry for three years at Village Seven and two years at First Presbyterian, he felt a clear call from the Lord in 2011 to move into full time youth ministry. Evan is pursuing a degree in Organizational Management and Christian Leadership from Colorado Christian University where he has also received a Certificate of Biblical Studies. Evan enjoys hiking with his wife and dog, mountain biking, skiing, running and following Red Sox baseball. His greatest passions are studying the Bible and building relationships with young students and their families. Knock on his office door anytime; Evan would love to meet you!

Tim O’Donnell

Director of Facilities

Tim was born and raised in Ohio. Jeannie is his wife and they have 4 grown daughters and 4 grandchildren. Tim and Jeannie live in a loft downtown. Tim retired from the high tech industry and began serving the church as the technology director and then assumed the position of Facilities and Operations Mgr. Through Tim’s many vocations and avocations, the Lord has prepared him for His service. Professionally he has worked in technology R&D, purchasing, operations, property management, and the mortgage industry. His hobbies include playing the organ as well as being a news junkie and a foodie. He studied at Heidelberg College, The American Hellenic Institute Athens, Loyola Rome, and the Univ of Toledo.

Don Roberts

Pastor of Missions & Administration

Don earned a Bachelor of Religious Education from William Tyndale College in 1982, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Michigan in 1984, and a Master of Divinity from New Geneva Theological Seminary in 1997. Don has served on the staff of a large church in Michigan, spent eight years as the Director of Administration for Mission Training International, and eight years as Controller/Administrator for the AD2000 & Beyond Movement. Don and his wife, Lisa, have four children.

Mark Tedder

Contemporary Worship Leader

God has used Mark in churches across our county and in many nations around the world. He has a passion for missions and for training leaders of worship. He and his wife, Carrie, will continue (on a limited basis) their ministry known as Worshiplanet, with a vision to “model, mobilize, network, and equip worship leadership globally.” Get to know Mark and his ministry at, on Facebook and YouTube.

Doug Tharp

Pastor of Young Adults

Doug Tharp was born in Houston, Texas, but moved frequently as his father is in the Air Force. He met his wife, Nicole, through one of the communities at Village 7. Doug graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a degree in History/Secondary Education and recently finished his Masters of Divinity at New Geneva Theological Seminary here in Colorado Springs. Prior to joining the Village 7 staff, Doug taught AP European History and Old Testament Bible at Colorado Springs Christian High School for six years. He is now an ordained pastor in the Presbyterian Church in America; he oversees three young adult communities, teaching within adult communities, and the integration process at the church, including Welcome Counter, Guest Reception, and Ushers.
